Excellent Magnifier Oct 21, 2008
I bought this magnifier for my dad who has lost vision due to macular degeneration. Unlike other magnifiers purchased, this one really works. It has made reading the newspaper and the mail much easier.

This square lighted magnifying glass is excellent for the price. It is light weight enough for older people to grasp, easy to load the batteries and the light is adequate for reading at night.

Super Buy! May 29, 2007

This lighted magnifer is the best purchase I have made in some time! I wish I had bought it long before now. It helps with seeing other things than reading too.

A reader's pal Dec 04, 2011
By Big Al
The lens of this Carson Optical Lighted Magnifold Magnifier is roughly rectangular, measuring 4-1/8" X 2-5/16" at the widest points with a 2X magnification. It is large enough to cover the entire width of a ½-page column commonly found in magazines. There are two tiny LED lights at the underside on the right. They operate on three 389 button batteries and are very bright - bright enough to read by without additional lighting. The on-off button is at the underside of the handle, which is rubberized for a comfortable hold and opens up to two positions. It folds up for compact storage. I have nothing but praise for this product. It is a good buy.
Note: I need to point out a couple of mis-statements in the Product Description: "...a rotating handle locks into any of six different positions...The MJ-50 Lighted MagniFold Magnifier has a bi-focal spot lens..." These statements are untrue - (1) The handle clicks into 3 positions, including the fully folded position, not six. (2) The lens is NOT bi-focal. I see no evidence of a change in focal length within the lens.
