Simple, Cheap and Effective Mar 29, 2007
By Driver Ed You don't need anything fancier or more expensive than this toilet seat riser. This one will fit over a regular or elongated oval toilet. No installation is necessary. Just raise the existing toilet lid and seat then place the riser on top of the bowl. It is the perfect height for someone who has just had hip joint replacement surgery. The material is made of lightweight rigid plastic, easy to clean and comfortable to sit on.
There are other brands that come with grips on either side, but you have to be careful with them. If you only hold one grip or put unequal pressure on both grips, it can cause the whole piece to flip off the toilet and cause you to fall. The hospital where my wife had her hip operation used this style with a locking device on the front and the first time she used it, it flipped off the toilet, but fortunately she didn't fall down with it.
At home I installed another product Medline Toilet Safety Rails to the existing toilet seat which rests on the floor instead of on the riser. This safety rail combined with the Duro-Med toilet seat riser is the best combination for safety and functionality.

Good Value Jul 10, 2008
By Deborah Mooers As described, but, I did not realize it had to be bolted to the toilet.

Just About Perfect Feb 13, 2007

I had bought a more expensive one, you've all seen it, had side handles and locks in place. That one,if you're standing and lean on the handles it falls off the toilet and you are likely to fall with it!!! This 4 inch UNIVERSAL costs much less. It's 4 " height is just right. It's easy to clean and is comfortable to sit on.

We're riding high now! Nov 10, 2007
By S-VHS "We're riding high now! Much easier to get up and down. It was just about 1/16" to 1/8" to long from front to back for our American Standard toilet. It would pop up on its own, not sitting flush with the bowl. I just heated it with a blow dryer on the front bottom portion of the seat then let it cool in place on the toilet. Perfect fit now!"

Perfect spacer between our existing comode and the bedside comode we placed over the existing toilet to give my husband height after he broke his pelvis and hip. We should have bought two, one for our other bathroom.
