Indispensable Tool for One-Handed Cook Aug 19, 2011
By Lynne E. A food preparation board with a sliding clamp to hold food, bowls, and bottles is an indispensable tool for a one-handed cook. This Swedish Cutting Board is well-designed, because of its convenient overall size, rounded-tip spikes for holding food, and clamp that adjusts to grip containers as wide as 9-1/2 inches.
Unfortunately, the Swedish Cutting Board is not durable. With daily use, the black clamp (with the red ball on the lever) invariably cracks, and then the clamp will no longer grip food or containers securely. Even so, I keep replacing our Swedish Cutting Board, because of the clamp's great holding capacity. My stroke-disabled husband uses it along with this quite rugged Kitchen Workstation - Model 555644. The Kitchen Workstation has a durable clamp, but the clamp only grips items up to 4-1/2 inches wide. The Kitchen Workstation is better for holding small bowls, and it has an enclosed cheese grater and vegetable peeler, but the lack of "clamp capacity" means that it is not the perfect food preparation board.
If you're purchasing a Swedish Cutting Board, or any food preparation workstation, be sure to shop around for the best price, because prices can vary a lot, even on Amazon.
